Obituary

Allen was born to Allen and Ina Bailey Hamlin on September 20th, 1941 in Colón, Panama. He was the eldest of five sons. Allen graduated from Rainbow City High School in 1960. In his yearbook, Allen wrote that he was known for his “habilidad de jugar tercera base a George Lynch” (ability to play third base like George Lynch). He also wrote that his ambition was to join the US Air Force and, in 1963, he did. Allen served on active duty until 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1969.

After leaving active duty, Allen returned to Brooklyn, NY and began his career at Chase Manhattan Bank in the Custody Department. While working at Chase, Allen attended Baruch College and graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1977. Allen retired as Vice President of Global Securities Services after 28 years at Chase. In 2001, Allen and his wife Estelle moved to Vizcaya in Delray Beach, FL. Allen was an active member of his community, volunteering in various roles at Vizcaya and at the Alliance of Delray Residential Association.
Allen was a huge Yankees fan, an avid poker player, and enjoyed hitting the racetrack at Gulfstream with his buddies.  Allen was also a devout Catholic. In Brooklyn, he attended St. Gregory’s and then was a much-loved usher at St. Martha’s in Uniondale, NY and Emmanuel Catholic Church in Delray Beach.

Allen was a devoted husband and cherished father and grandfather. At the end of his life, Allen said that his proudest accomplishment was his family and the children he raised. He was a firm believer in the transformative power of education and all three of his children graduated from college. He was an unwavering example of love, sacrifice, generosity, and faith who will be dearly missed.

Allen is survived by wife Estelle; children William, Michael, and Angela; grandchildren Donovan, Morgan, Miles, and Emory; many loving family members, and a host of friends.
