Obituary

Sergeant Amy Quinn, 32, of State College Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly on September 4th, 2022. She was born early June of 1990 to her father Robert Quinn and mother Shawn Swartz. Over the course of her lifetime, she lived in 3 states (Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Ohio) and 2 countries (Germany and the Horn of Africa).

She is preceded in death by both sets of grandparents who loved her dearly, Robert’s parents, Charles S. Quinn of Lewistown Pennsylvania, Joyce Ann Rodkey of Winter Haven, Florida and Shawn’s' parents, Stanley Zimering and Dolores (Kline, Swartz) Zimering of Melbourne, Florida.

She is survived by her father Robert Quinn of State College, Pennsylvania, her mother Shawn Swartz of Bainbridge, Georgia, three siblings Kelsey Quinn of Virginia, Courtney Quinn of Florida and Matthew Quinn of State College.

She also leaves behind many more friends and battle buddies.

Amy was a Silver Award Girl Scout with her sister Kelsey. She worked with the 28th Division out of Boalsburg, PA as a volunteer Brownie Scout for the Wreath Laying Ceremony every Spring in May. She was particularly proud of the coin she earned as a Senior Scout, from the Division Commanding General for her 10 years of continued volunteer service. She went on to earn several more coins, service awards, and accolades for her continued dedication to serve those in need.

Amy loved the Army and served as soldier for 15 years having originally starting her career in Ashley PA. She began her career as a Combat Medic, later transitioning to serve her fellow soldiers in a different way by becoming a Human Resources Specialist during her time in Germany. She loved that country and hoped to return one day. Amy’s subservient approach to lead and help soldiers made her an invaluable part of the units in Altoona Pa, Westerville Ohio, Grafenwöhr Germany, Joint Operations Command (JOC) AFRICOM, in The Horn of Africa and the Flying Tigers Unit out of Fort Knox, Kentucky. She was scheduled to relocate to Saipan for her next assignment in January 2023.

She attended Penn State while serving her country and had planned on completing her degree with the World Campus while stationed in Saipan.

Everyone loved Amy that met her. She inspired, influenced, and cared for many soldiers, friends and people in general.  She was a devout Christian and sang in church as a young girl and later played the piano for services at High Grounds church while living in Kentucky. She was a beautiful piano player and artist.  She always lived her life fully and with joy and aspired to be the Proverbs:31 Woman. She leaves behind her two puppies Spyder and Little Bit and is joined in Heaven by her other dog Chico.
