April Quigley, a cherished educator, devoted friend, and beloved family member, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, in Crescent City, California, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 18, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, April's vibrant spirit and compassionate heart touched the lives of all who knew her.
April was a beacon of knowledge and kindness throughout her 37-year tenure in education in Del Norte County. Her dedication to children and families was unwavering, and she left an indelible mark on the community she served. April's academic journey was a testament to her love for learning; she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English, an Elementary Teaching Credential, and a Special Education Credential from Humboldt State University in 1974, shaping her path as a mentor and guide to countless students.Beyond her professional achievements, April was a woman of diverse interests and talents. An avid reader, she found joy in the twists and turns of mysteries and the imaginative realms of science fiction, with literature remaining her favorite subject. April's creative flair was evident in her exceptional cross-stitch work, which she generously shared with family and friends as cherished tokens of her artistry. Her hands were rarely still, as she also completed numerous quilts and sewing projects, each piece a testament to her meticulous care and love for the craft.
April's commitment to her community was as steadfast as her passion for education and the arts. She served diligently on the board of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), advocating for the best interests of children in the foster care system. As a member of the Lighthouse Quilt Guild, she combined her love for quilting with community service, contributing to the warmth and comfort of those in need.Family was the cornerstone of April's life. She is survived by her best friend and partner, Kathy Imfeld, who stood by her through life's many chapters. Her sister, Mari Erin Roth, will hold dear the memories of a sister whose strength and compassion knew no bounds. April was a cherished aunt to her nephew and niece, Aaron Quigley and Farrell McLaughlin as well as a doting great-aunt to her great-niece and nephews, each of whom will miss her gentle spirit. April was preceded in death by her loving parents, Farrell and Annabelle Quigley, and her brother David Quigley, whose memories she held close to her heart.
April's life was a tapestry of love, learning, and selfless service. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she inspired, the students she guided, and the family and friends who adored her. She will be remembered as a woman who lived fully, loved generously, and left the world a better place for her presence. April's story is not one of sadness, but a celebration of a life well-lived, a journey marked by the countless lives she enriched along the way.As the seasons change and the pages of the calendar turn, April's memory will be a comforting presence, much like the intricate patterns of her beloved cross-stitch that remain with us. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Crescent City United Methodist Hall on October 2nd from 11:30 -1:30pm.The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made directly to CASA of Del Norte and the Lighthouse Quilt Guild in Crescent City, California.
