Obituary

Barbra C. Lampe, age 90, passed away on May 4, 2024, in Vero Beach, Florida. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Harry and Kathryn D'Angelo Chakales. Barbra was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Otto William Lampe.Barbra's life journey took her from the bustling streets of Brooklyn to various corners of the world before settling in Vero Beach. She met Otto in Brooklyn before embarking on adventures together in Venezuela, South America where they were married, and Virginia. Eventually, they made Vero Beach their home, where Barbra played an active role in the family construction business, OWL Associates, managing the administrative office with skill and dedication.

Barbra was a woman of many talents and interests. She embraced life fully, always eager to learn and experience new things. Over the years, she pursued various endeavors, including real estate sales, hairstyling (earning her a license as a hairdresser), and
studying interior design. Her creative spirit found expression in activities like knitting, sewing, and needlepoint, and she was particularly known for crafting the family's Christmas stockings.

Barbra was also an avid bridge player and cultivated a passion for growing orchids. Her love for travel took her to far-flung destinations around the globe, with Spain and Italy holding special places in her heart. As a member of both the Moorings Club and the Vero Beach Yacht Club, she enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts.

Barbra's generosity knew no bounds. She dedicated her time, talent, and resources to causes close to her heart, supporting organizations like St. Jude, Wounded Warriors, the ASPCA, and efforts to protect orphaned elephants. She also volunteered her time at the board of elections, demonstrating her commitment to civic engagement.
Barbra's love extended to her furry companions, her beloved chihuahuas Reina, Paco, Sassy, and Piccolini. She cherished their companionship and showered them with affection.
Barbra is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Whitehurst and her husband George of Winter Haven, FL, and Cynthia Smith and her husband Richard of Port St. Lucie, FL; her sister, Patricia DeCaprio of Ormond Beach, FL; three grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren, three nieces, and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Paulmann, and her brother, Charles Chakales.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20th St., Vero Beach, FL, with Deacon Ray Parchen of Holy Cross Catholic Church officiating.
