Obituary

BERTUS, Bernard "Bernie" Sr., 76, of Highland Hills, Follansbee, died Sunday, August 23, 2009,
at home.

Hewas born December 2, 1932, in Windsor Heights, W.Va., a son of the late Joseph and Bertha
Matlon Bertus.
Hewas retired from Weirton Steel,where heworked from1977-1992 as foreman of the strip
steel department, and from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel,where heworked from1955-1977 as
superintendent of the 80-inch hotmill. Hewas a corporal in theU.S. Army during the Korean
Conflict, and was amember of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Follansbee. He graduated from
Wellsburg High School in 1950, and from West Virginia University in 1959 with a bachelor of
science degree in electrical engineering. Hewas also amember of the Theta Chi Alpha Fraternity,
Follansbee, and the Knights of Columbus, Follansbee.
In addition to his parents, hewas preceded in death by four brothers, Peter,Joseph, Martin and
WilliamBertus; and five sisters, Anna and Helen Bertus, MargaretHolvanisin, Philomena Byrnes
and Barbara Puskas.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years,JoAnn La Cross Bertus,whomhemarried January 2, 1954;
a son, Bernard F. Bertus Jr. and his wife, Debra (Collier) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; three daughters,
Theresa (Teri) McClure and her husband, Matthew, ofJacksonville, Fla., Susan E. Findling and her
husband,Jeff, of Wellsburg and Brenda Kiely and her husband,Jeff, of Downington, Pa.; 11
grandchildren, Dr.Jeff Findling and Rachel, Michael Findling and Mindy, Seth Findling, Devon
Bertus, Brooke Bertus, Beau Bertus, BryceMcClure, Tyler McClure,Jeffrey Kiely, Daniel Kiely
and Will Kiely; and two great- grandchildren, Mykenzie and Jonas Findling.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 26, 2009, from4-8 p.m. at Reasner Funeral Home, 1515
Charles St., Wellsburg. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, August
27, 2009, atthe St. Anthony Catholic Church, Follansbee,with Father PeteGiannamore
officiating. Intermentwill be private. Therewill be a Theta Chi Alphamemorialservice
Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 6 p.m., a Knights of Columbus service at 6:30 p.m. and a
Catholic vigilservice at 7:30 p.m.

JoAnn Agnes LaCross Bertus, 87, of Follansbee, WV, passed awayOctober 3, 2019 at Passavant
Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.JoAnn was born February 21, 1932 in Rush Run,Ohio, to the late Tuson
and Doris Brown LaCross. Shewas a graduate of Wellsburg High School Class of 1950, and a
graduate of theOhio Valley School of Nursing Class of 1953.JoAnn was amember of St.
Anthonys Catholic Church, Follansbee, WV, and retired fromtheOhio Valley Hospital,
Steubenville,OH,where sheworked as an ER nurse. In addition to her parents shewas preceded
in death by the Love of her Life, her husband Bernard "Bernie" Bertus Sr.who passed in 2009,
her Aunt Thresa and Uncle Percy Yostwho raised her fromthe age of 5. Three sisters, Georgia
Loeffler,Joyce Sandreth, and Mina Hlebiczki. She is survived by one son Bernard "Bernie" Bertus
Jr. and Debra of Parkersburg, WV, Theresa "Teri" McClure and MatthewofJacksonville, Fl.,
Susan Findling and Jeff of Wellsburg, WV, Brenda Kiely and Jeff of Downingtown, PA, Grand
children Jeff and Rachel Findling, Michael and Seth Findling, Devon, Brooke, and Beau Bertus,
Bryce and Angela McClure and Tyler and NicoleMcClure,Jeffrey, Daniel and Will Kiely. Great
grandchildren Mykenzie,Jonas, Ronin, Remy,J.J., Cross, Ledger, and Michael Eli, a Brother Tuson
LaCross and MaryLou, foursisters Rosemary Hawkins and Jerry, Sandy Kokosinski,Josephine
Ohler and Les, and Pat Ellis and several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be held 4-
8pmSundayOctober 6, 2019 at Reasner Funeral Home 1515 Charles St., Wellsburg, WV.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held MondayOctober 7, 2019 at 10amat St. Anthony Catholic
Church Follansbee, WV with FatherJude as Celebrant. Intermentwill be held privately atthe
convenience of the family.
