Obituary

Betty Lou Neal Franklin, 84 of Thaxton, VA passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024.  She was born December 14, 1939, daughter of the late John T. Neal, Jr. and Janie Keith Neal. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Allen Franklin whom she married January 18, 1956.  She and Rodney had many travel adventures being married to a military man. She was also preceded in death by her son, Terry Allen Franklin; grandson, Samuel F. Franklin and sister-in-law, Linda LaPradd.

She worked at Whittaker Medical in Roanoke; Powell’s Pharmacy and Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.  She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Montvale.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Lou Coleman (Kenneth Meadows); daughter, Vicki Lynn Perdue (Brady); granddaughters, Bridget Coleman (Mike Matola), Stephanie Lauren Coleman (David Melki); great grandchildren, Willow Mae Matola, Violet Sofia Matola and Suraya Jayne Melki; sister, Jean Carol Franklin (Johnny); a niece and a nephew; special family friend, Sindi Jones.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Oakey’s East Chapel with burial to follow at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service.
