Betty Shannon

July 18th, 1932 - January 4th, 2023

Obituary

She was born July 18, 1932 and was a daughter of the late Leokey Carr and Mary Elizabeth Lambert.
She was married to James William “Jim” Shannon on February 21, 1952. Betty was born on Pittsburgh’s North Side and graduated from Perry High School. She was an active member of jazzercise and made many good friends with which her friendship continued long after she could no longer attend classes. Betty later retired from Passavant Hospital in McCandless where she worked as an anesthesia aide from 1980 to 1995.
In addition to her love for jazzercise, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, and reading. She was also an avid collector of salt and pepper shakers, over 875 of them to be exact. Above all, she enjoyed being with her family and having the joy of being a gram and great-grandma.
She is survived by her daughter Joann Marie Becker (Paul); grandson, Brian James Becker (Heather); two great-granddaughters, Kylie Ann Becker and Alaina Marie Becker; brothers, Huey Carr and Leokey Carr, Jr. (Cindy); and sisters, Mary Yaromey Kuyat and Thelma Dornburg. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim Shannon; grandson, Matthew Alan Becker; sister, Lillian Carr; brothers, Thaddus Carr, Wallace Carr and John Carr; and sisters-in-law, Cathy, Janie and Shirley Carr.
