BETTY JANE (PAYSON)
SKOWRONEK
12/20/1930 – 12/19/2023 – Age 92
Betty Jane (Honey) Skowronek beloved mother, grandmother, and
great grandmother, aunt, cousin and dear friend, passed away, into the arms of
our Lord, on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. Betty would have celebrated her
93rd birthday on 12/20/2023. She was the last
surviving member of her immediate family.
Betty was born in Nemacolin, PA, to her parents Joseph and
Sophia Payson. She was predeceased by her husband Eugene (Gene) S.
Skowronek, on July 28 2012. They would have celebrated 62 years of
marriage on September 2, 2012. Betty and Gene’s relationship was nothing
less than remarkable, always by each other’s side. They
were an amazing and loving couple. She was also predeceased in death by
her loving sister Constance (Connie) Fabian and her husband Francis (Dusty),
in-laws, Stanley and Helen Kurka Skowronek, and Nellie Skowronek, Robert and
Alberta Skowronek, and Martha Ann and John Kupets.
Betty left to cherish her memory is her devoted son and
daughter, Gene and Cindy Skowronek, and Jane and Nelson Boskovitch. She
is also survived by her grandchildren who she loved and was so proud of,
Felicia Kettler of Leesburg VA, Bradford and April Boskovitch, Belle Vernon PA,
Brian and Debbie Boskovitch of Hopwood, PA, Jonathan and Rebecca Boskovitch of
Nicholasville KY, and Jeremy and Angie Boskovitch of Westerville, OH. Her
great grandchildren Jay Kettler, Brycen and Connor Boskovitch, Parker Jane Boskovitch,
and Gavin Boskovitch, her step granddaughter Lauren and her husband Dennis
Husser and Baby Boy Boskovitch due in February.
She is also survived by the nieces and great nieces Sharon
and Joe Lillis and daughter Sophia, and Cara Jay Fabian and her daughter
Corina, along with all of the Skowronek/Kupets nephew and
nieces.
Betty graduated from South Union High School. She was a
co-owner of Family Grocery formerly located on South Mount Vernon Ave, across
the street for old St. Joseph Church, in Uniontown. Betty was a lifelong
member of St. Joseph Church and Christian Mother.
Betty and Gene loved polka music and dancing. They
would travel to attended many various polka conventions all over the United
States. After retirement Betty and Gene decided to move to Orlando FL,
were they both got jobs in Disney World. After 6 months, missing her
family and grandchildren, they returned to Uniontown.
Betty loved to entertain for the Holidays especially
Christmas time. At this time of the year she would be making her holiday
cookies, her special foods for all the Skowronek, Kupets and friends who would
come to celebrate on Christmas Day. Betty was able to make all her
grandchildren wedding cookies when they married. Her Grandchildren will
miss all the times Grams and Gramp’s would take them all in the Motor home,
which she so much enjoyed spending time with them and making memories that we
all still laugh about. Our hearts are truly broken, she will truly be
missed. The family would like to thank the Staff of Monarch Meadows and Amedisys Hospice for the care given to Betty.
Friends will be received
at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext Uniontown on Friday
from 2-7 PM. Saturday Prayers of Transfer 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of
Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. joseph Church, Old Walnut Hill, Uniontown.
Interment will be in Mt. St. Macrina Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family
suggests memorial contributions to St. Joseph Church or a charity of your
