Obituary

Mrs. Carol Lee “Cookie” Stewart Johnson, age 81 of Mount Airy passed away on Thursday evening, March 7, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Mrs. Johnson was born on April 6, 1942, in Surry County, to the late Clarin and Grace Carter Stewart.  Mrs. Johnson was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.  She was a member of Dobson Church of Christ and the owner and operator of Texaco Oil Company, along with several convenience stores in Mount Airy.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.   Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Michael Stewart Johnson and Beth Hamblin; her grandchildren, Levi Johnson, Melinda and Nicky Mosley, Brittany and Nicholas Huff, Beth Johnson, and Sherrie and Bubba Grose; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Sharon Donahoe; a sister-in-law, Patsy Amburn; two brothers and sister-in-law, Kent Stewart, Bill and Ann Stewart; along with several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Grady Edward “Eddie” Johnson; a son, Mark Edward Johnson; a sister, Glenda Stewart Hunter; and two brothers, Gary Stewart, and Bud Stewart.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Dobson Church of Christ with Reverend Scott Meadows officiating.  Interment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Dobson Church of Christ from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Dobson Church of Christ, 165 Dobson Church of Christ Road, Dobson, NC 27017.   Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
