David Arnold Hastings
FAIRLAWN, OH- David A. Hastings, 97, passed away in the early morning of January 20, 2024. He was born Aug. 20, 1926, to the late Dudley and Ada Hastings of Hillsborough, NC. He attended Hillsborough H.S. until he dropped out to join the Navy at the age of 17. After being honorably discharged in 1945 he was able to complete his high school education.
After moving to Akron, he started working at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. While working at Firestone he met Dolores Jean Bennett whom he married two months later. Dave and Dolores spent 66 years together until her passing in 2020.
Dave retired in 1986 with 33 years of service as Director of Field Auditing. His job allowed him to travel extensively around the world and he was still telling stories of the places he visited until the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Owen and Clarence, and sister, Helen Luquire. His loving wife, Dolores and grandson, Brian Hastings. He leaves behind his children, David (Kelly), Deborah (Delbert) Tuxhorn and Daniel (Nancy), many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
