Obituary

On April 6, 2024, Delbert C. Thompson left his earthly life to his heavenly home. Delbert was 100 years old, born on May 23, 1923 to Maude and Fordie Thompson in Owenton, KY. In 1947 he married Midge Sasher and in 2020 they celebrated 72 years of marriage. She preceded him in death. They moved to Muncie in 1965. Delbert was retired from General Motors. He was a Navy Vet serving in WWII as a signalman aboard the USS Caribou.
Besides his family, Delbert had 3 loves, restoring antique furniture, working in his yard, and the Kentucky Wildcat’s men’s basketball team. 
Survivors are his 4 daughters, Anita Thornburg (Daryle) of Ridgeville, Rita Ullon (Jay), Debbie Bennett both of Muncie, Peggy White (Darrin Coats) of Gaston, 10 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren, and his best friend and fellow woodworker, George Phelps. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 1 son-in-law, and 1 granddaughter.
Calling hours will be held from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Garden View Funeral Home. A service will begin at 12:00 PM with Pastor Michael Hewitt officiating. Delbert will be buried at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
