Derek “DJ” Turnquest was born January 27, 1987 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL
All through his youth and young adult life he was a gifted athlete and had a great love for football and basketball. His favorite NFL team was the Rams. He absolutely loved watching Shark Week, River Monsters and anything nature related
on National Geographic and could tell you all kinds of facts of many different fish, mammals, reptiles, crustaceans, and amphibians as well as all kinds of birds.
DJ was very sensitive and wore his heart on his sleeve. He had become fearless and was always willing to try something new. He was passionate about everything he did and had a strong moral compass. He conducted himself with the utmost integrity and
did not hesitate to help others in need. He was a good listener and would be there for you no matter the circumstances. He had a pure heart and an abundance of love to give. DJ had so much determination and persevered through the adversities he faced.
He always stayed true to himself and fought for what he believed in.
DJ grew up in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach and after attending high school, DJ entered the National Guard and attended training at the US Army Aviation Logistics School to repair UH-60 helicopters as well as First Responders training. He was
subsequently deployed for a year in Kuwait and was also a part of the draw down support force for troops in Iraq.
In 2016-2018 DJ attended Lincoln Technology School and obtained his AA degree in Automotive Technology and proceeded to work in the automotive industry until 2022. Recently he began working with a contractor drilling large diameter deep injection wells
as a site supervisor and was super excited with his newfound career in the leading edge of drilling technology.
DJ is survived by his son Brycen, parents Roland, Tiffany and Yasmin, two brothers DeVonte and Dorien and four Sisters Naschea, Ashley, Megan and Haylie as well as five Nephews DeVonte Jr, De’Onte, Bryce, Russian, Jason Jr and one Niece, Myah. He
also is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
DJ will have a military ceremony at the South Florida National Cemetery and be laid to rest on July 24 th .
Rest now, DJ. We love you. Your memory will live on in our hearts and minds forever.
