Obituary
Sadly, Donald E Thompson of Fort Pierce FL, and Bangor Maine, slipped into a world of no discomfort on May 18, 2023. Don was surrounded by the love of some of his family. His passing was beautiful to witness though so sad to relinquish him.
Don was the son of Hazel Thompson and born in his beloved Geneva, Ohio. At birth Don joined 3 brothers and a sister who loved and guided him.
A graduate of Geneva High School, Don joined the Navy along with two of his buddies. He never regretted it. He was a proud Navy man.
Upon discharge from the Navy, Don opened a phone book to perhaps find a school in the San Francisco area that he might want to look into. His fingers stopped at a court reporting school. The rest is history. Don worked in Superior Court in Maine after a long move. Eventually he opened Don Thompson and Associates Court Reporting firm. He continued to work for and with Maine's finest attorneys and judges with whom he had
utmost respect and admiration.
Don sold his beloved business to one of his up and coming court reporters in 2012. The business continues to thrive with his name still attached.
Don and Anne met, fell in love and married in 1992. They had children to introduce to each other. As good fortune had it, they liked each other. These young adults gifted Anne and Don with incredible grandchildren.
Hermon was Anne and Don's last home in Maine, a home they treasured where the grandchildren could run freely and call a second home.
In 2012 Don and Anne moved to Fort Pierce Fl and were welcomed into the folds of great people. Don was part of the early morning golfers and he wouldn't miss a chance to play. He found such love and camaraderie with the guys. It was kind of like his foursome at PVCC. Great friends to this day.
Don loved the game of golf. He had the chance to play courses in Scotland, Ireland, and Pebble Beach. He knew the game.
For many years, Don coached Little League and was awarded Coach of the Year award. Many of those young players, now with young players of their own, continue to reminisce some fun stories.
Don is predeceased by his mother, his siblings and oldest son, Nick. He is survived by his loving wife Anne, children Maryann, Lisa, and Doug. He is also survived by Anne's children, Cindi, Ron, Amanda and Rebecca. As much as Don loved the children, the grands stole his heart. He loved teasing them, playing with them, letting them work in the Hermon yard, putting on costumes at Halloween and playing Santa at Christmas time.
In the end, Don knew how much he was loved. He would be so humbled by the continued outpouring. But that was him, happy, humble, treating people with respect. He had a strong handshake and a twinkle in his eye. Don Thompson had a good life. His passing was gentle, as he deserved. Remember him with a big smile. Don will be laid to rest at the Veterans Cemetery in Augusta Maine in the summer. A celebration of his life will be planned for Fall 2023.
