Doris Jean Hyatt

Obituary

There will be a graveside service at 11 AM on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Crestwood
Cemetery for Doris Jean Hicks Hyatt, age 94 of Gadsden. Mrs. Hyatt passed away on Tuesday,
February 13, 2024. Pastor Rick Blythe will officiate. The family will receive friends at Crestwood
Funeral Home from 9:30 - 10:30, prior to graveside service. Crestwood Funeral Home will direct
services.
Mrs. Hyatt was a native and longtime resident of Gadsden. She attended Emma Sansom High, and was a graduate of Gadsden State Community College and Jacksonville State University. She had earned her Masters degree from the University of Alabama. Mrs Hyatt first received her degree in Nursing and then went back to get her BS and Masters degree in Education. She taught Special Education at Cherokee County High School until her retirement. She was a charter member of the Gadsden Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed working on her computer, reading, traveling (in younger years) and playing with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Hyatt is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James “Elbert” Hyatt, her parents Joseph David “‘Dave” and Lena Carrie Hicks, as well as her brothers J. D. and Gerald Hicks.
She is survived by her children, James D. “Jim” Hyatt (Elizabeth), Donna A. Hare (the late Kenneth Hare), and Lisa D. Gattis; grandchildren, David “Dave” Hyatt (Brandy), Carrie Stewart (Shaine), Anthony Hyatt, Patrick Hare (Laurel), Nathan Browning (Rebekah), Ashley Jones (Jason), Trent Hare (Alyssa), Jim Browning (Stephanie), Devan Hare, Tiffany Garrard (Richard), Kara Edmondson (Joey), Judson “Judd” Hodge (Shelby), Brogan Gattis (Rylie), and Will Gattis: 29 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Gadsden Health Care and Rehab for the care and compassion given to Mrs. Hyatt.
