"Fred R. Lewis, founder of Lewis Funeral Chapel, realized the need for the residents of Kitsap County to have a local, modern, endowed care cemetery that wasn't located in Seattle. In 1931, Fred financed his sons Lester and Paul to construct an endowed care cemetery and crematory on the highway which was currently under construction between Bremerton and the north end communities.
In 1940, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Section was blessed by Father Camerman, and is the only Catholic cemetery section in Kitsap County. This Section is for the exclusive use of families of the Catholic Faith and has served them since 1940 when the first interment was made. Forest Lawn Cemetery’s Our Lady of Fatima section continues to serve the needs of local catholics seeking a final resting place for their loved ones."
