Obituary

Fredrick Eugene Clapper SR, Beech Grove, IN, passed away on the early morning of Sunday, November 12, 2023. He was 71 years old. Fred was born in Indianapolis, IN, to his parents Loren Fredrick Clapper and Elenora Mae Clapper Singhurst. Fred married his wife, Rebecca Clapper, on November 30, 1972 and they shared 51 years of marriage together. Fred answered the call of this nation by enlisting into the United States Army to serve during the time of the Vietnam war. After his period of faithful service, Fred was honorably discharged. Upon his return to the United States, Fred was able to earn his GED by attending night school.
Fred owned and operated his family’s business, Clapper & Sons Painting. Fred was able to convince his wife to help him with the business for over 35 years until they both retired in 2018. Fred was a lifelong man of faith who maintained his relationship with Jesus privately. Fred was a member of Post #88 of the American Legion for 36 years. Fred was also a member of the Moose Club #17 for over 21 years. Fred enjoyed spending time with his family, taking fishing trips, and watching football. He hardly ever missed an Indianapolis Colts or Dallas Cowboys game. Fred also cheered for the Chicago Cubs every chance he could. Fred loved animals and raised his “show dog”, Rusty, to be a large part of his family. Fred’s family will miss his exaggerated yawning and witty sense of humor. Fred’s family oriented nature leaves behind a legacy of love for his dearest family members to remember him by.
Fred is survived by his wife, Becky “Bec” Clapper; his children, Jenny (James) Price, Freddie (Stephanie) Clapper Jr., and Jimmy (Erica) Clapper; his grandchildren, Dustin (Kenzi) Price, Jessica (Alex) Hall, Maegan Clapper, Jaedyn Clapper, Molly Clapper, Evan Clapper, Luke Clapper, and Drew Clapper; his great grandchildren, Keegan Price, Grady Price, Emersyn Price, Cooper Price, Madison Hall and Ellie Hall; his siblings, Lorna (Scott) Johnson and Dennis (Cheryl) Clapper; his nieces and nephews, Kyle (Alana) Johnson, Kimbery (Sean) Morgan, Sarah Johnson, Sam Roberts, Ashley Matthews, Timmy Clapper, and several more; his in-laws, Pat Stoltz, Linda (John) Sparks, Ricky (Pina) Stringer, Dale Stringer, and Bill (Laura) Stringer.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Linda Souders and Sonja Clapper; his in-laws, Ronnie Stringer, Frank Stringer, Faye Sauer and Lavay Stringer.
