Obituary
George Conrad Porter, friend to
all, passed away at the age of 73 on August 27, 2025, at his home in Sandy,
Oregon surrounded by family and friends who loved him dearly. A sudden brain
aneurysm decided it was time for a cooler with George's name on it, (close
friends know the meaning of that) but not before he left a trail of laughter
and love behind.
Born on December 15, 1951, in
Portland, Oregon, to J. Robert and Doris Porter, George was a Sandy native
through and through. He roamed the halls of Sandy Elementary, graduating from
Sandy High school in 1970. George learned the meaning of hard work helping his
parents on their strawberry farm.
The berry farm transitioned into
Porter nursery in George's young adult life.
After the passing of George's
parents, and together with his wife Sherry, George carried on the family
business.
George was a magnet for friends,
collecting them like rare coins everywhere he went - whether at the local gun
shop or halfway across the country. With his quick wit and generous heart any
time spent with George was a good time that usually included a cold Brewskie.
George enjoyed making the annual pilgrimage to Sturgis. He loved fishing,
clamming, crabbing, and UTVing with family and friends. He also had a hidden
talent for capturing their adventures through the lens of his camera.
He leaves behind his beloved wife
Sherry who kept up with his wild spirit, his sister Barbara, and a whole crew
of mutually chosen family members who adopted George as their own (or was it
the other way around?).
Join us for a celebration of life
that'll be as lively as George (he loved a good party!) on September 20, 2025,
from 1pm to 4pm at the home place Porter Nursery 45545 SE Hwy 26, Sandy Oregon -
expect stories and laughs!
George, you're missed already, but
we'll keep your stories alive and your laughter in our hearts, Ride on, dear
friend!
Donations
Instead of flowers, George would've wanted you to support Mt. Hood Hospice with a donation, so they can keep spreading care as generously as they did for him.
