Obituary
Gordon D. Goodman, 67, of Ormond Beach, FL passed away at Halifax Hospice on February 27 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Gordon was born to Lois and Harold Goodman on November 24, 1955 in Jerseyville, IL. He was known to his daughter as daddy, grandkids as granddaddy, siblings as Gordy, and friends as G-Man.
He moved down to Florida and then bought his dream home in 1976. He loved his children and spent many hours in the outfield watching Nick play baseball or driving Allison to friend’s houses. He was so proud of his son and daughter’s accomplishments. His grandchildren were his absolute joy. He loved watching them in all their activities and cheered them on in every adventure. He always prioritized birthdays and gave each one two dollar bills that totaled their age. After all, he didn’t high five, rather he gave two.
He was an avid NASCAR fan and it showed. He had the honor of being voted Mayor of Speedweeks in 2010. You could also hear his regular race reports on the radio. He started every conversation with, “Hey Now” and ended each one with, “See Ya!” His mottos included, “Laugh your troubles away” and “Smile, it will come back to you.” He spent Sunday mornings “getting his religion” from Joel Osteen. He loved deeply and put others first. We can all learn to have his positive attitude and happy smile.
He was preceded in death by his son (Nicholas Goodman), parents (Lois and Harold Goodman), sister (Sheila Goodman), and brother-in-laws (Danny Fraley, Terry Walsh, and Bill Rice). He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law (Allison and Justin McKee), grandchildren (Tanner, Trenton and Anniston), siblings (Gary and Betty Goodman, Janice Fraley, Gwenda Rice, Brenda Walsh, and Jewel Whitlatch), and many nieces and nephews.
There are currently no official services scheduled, but we encourage everyone to celebrate his life with a smile!
