Obituary

James “Jim/Jimmy” Nicholson Culp, 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2024.  Jim was born in Bethesda, Maryland on May 19, 1947 to Richard Theodore Culp and Mary Nicholson Culp.  He resided in Arnold, Maryland before moving to Sanford, Florida in 2006.  Jim enlisted in the Army and served his country in the Vietnam War.  He was a member of The American Legion Auxiliary.  He loved his family.  He had the kindest heart and would go out of his way to help others.  He loved music, played the guitar, going to the beach, swimming, and Jimmy Buffet.  He enjoyed going to Disney and Sea World, especially the water parks. He was funny, goofy, witty, and loved a good joke.     

Jim was pre-deceased by his wife, Kathy Culp. He is survived by his daughter Susan Houston, his grandson Connor Houston, daughter Jamie Johnson and son-in-law Tyler Johnson as well as their fur grandbabies Calvert, Adley and Brooks. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Culp, sister-in-law Cindy Culp and nephews Steven and Jeffrey Culp, as well as numerous beloved cousins. 

The family will receive guests on January 15, 2024 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Lohman’s Funeral Home in Deland.  A graveside service will follow at DeLand Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
