Obituary

James Alex McGowin, 79, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Parkview Regional. He was born August 31, 1942 to the late Alex and Frances (Powell) McGowin. He was an operational supervisor for the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo for 50 years. He was also in the United States Marine Corps from 1961-1965. He enjoyed bicycling, being outdoors, walking his dog (Spice) and doing things with friends and family.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Connie (Windmiller) McGowin; children, Kelly Weber (Todd) and Kim Borland (Scott); five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Larry and Steve Windmiller. He was preceded in death by both sisters, Jane Bell, and Alice Gullett. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46804. Graveside service will take place at 11am at Covington Memorial Gardens with military honors. A memorial service will be held at 6pm at Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren, 2810 Beacon St, Fort Wayne, IN 46805, with Minister Brian Flory officiating with a visitation before starting at 5 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren or The Center for Great Apes in Wauchula, FL
