Obituary
Jeremiah Patrick Casey, affectionately known as Jerry to his friends, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at the age of 75 in Vero Beach, Florida. Jerry was born in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Jeremiah and Julia O'Conner Casey.
Jerry led a rich and fulfilling life, marked by his dedication to his work, his service to his country, and his passion for adventure. He served with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and later embarked on a successful career as a telecommunications design specialist for Lucent Technologies.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jerry was an avid explorer, finding solace and joy in the depths of the ocean as a PADI & NAUI certified diver. His love for diving took him to remarkable destinations around the globe, where he marveled at the wonders of the underwater world.
Proud of his Irish heritage, Jerry found immense joy in the sounds of traditional Irish music, which he shared with enthusiasm whenever the opportunity arose. In 2011, Jerry and his beloved wife, Lois Bojnansky Casey, made the move to Vero Beach, Florida, from Lemont, Illinois, embracing the warmth of the Sunshine State's shores.
Jerry's commitment to service extended beyond his professional and personal pursuits. He was actively involved in various organizations, including the American Legion Illinois Post 0250, the Vero Beach Elks Lodge 1774, and the Vero Beach Power Squadron. His dedication to community preparedness led him to become a valued member of the CERT of Indian River County.
An accomplished amateur radio operator with the call sign KM4UFL, Jerry was also a member of the Vero Beach Amateur Radio Club W4OT. His passion for boating and exploration led him to obtain his captain's license, where he navigated the waters as Captain of Chicago's First Lady river cruise, sharing the beauty and history of the city with countless passengers.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Lois Bojnansky Casey, his brother John Casey and his wife Susan of Grayslake, Illinois, his sisters Mary Kelleher and her husband Kevin of Norridge, Illinois, Kathy South and her husband John of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Margaret Peluso of Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Casey.
A memorial service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
Jerry will be remembered fondly for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. His legacy of service and adventure will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
