October 30, 1937 – August 23, 2026
John Paul Bannan, a
longtime resident of Long Beach, Washington, passed away peacefully on August
23, 2026, at Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, Washington, surrounded by his
children. He was 88 years old.
Born on October 30, 1937,
in Oakland, California, John was the son of Francis and Lycia (Ofilia-Balderi)
Bannan. He grew up in San Francisco, where he attended school. Before joining
the United States Navy, he spent time exploring different places and gaining
new experiences. He served until his honorable discharge in 1958.
John was a carpenter by
trade and spent much of his life working with his hands. He was always fixing,
building, or improving something. There was nearly always another project
waiting for him; finishing one often meant he was already thinking about the next.
He enjoyed music and
played both the harmonica and accordion. He also collected movies and enjoyed
discovering new places and making memories along the way. A man of strong
opinions, John was never afraid to share them. He could be gruff and set in his
ways, but those who knew him best understood that these qualities were part of
the distinctive personality that made him who he was.
John is survived by his
sons, Irvin and Ivan Bannan; his daughter, Erin Binder; his brother, George
Bannan; and his grandchildren, Jacob Bannan, Hudson and Nora Binder. He was
preceded in death by his sons, Daniel and Joel Bannan.
His family will remember
him for his countless projects, love of music and travel, and unmistakable
personality. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service honoring
John’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026,
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Long Beach, Washington.
