Obituary
Joseph A. Jackson, 90, of Muncie, went home to his Heavenly Father, Saturday, July 1, 2023. Janet (Stephenson) Jackson, his wife of 72 years and his 5 children, Becky Jo Schnake (Terry), Marcus Jackson, (Peggy Williams), Toni Smith (Thomas), Tina Curran (Darnell) and Matt Jackson (Millie) were blessed to be at his side as he made his transition to his eternal home. He was born in Hartford City, Indiana on September 10, 1932, the son of the (late) Arthur A. and Emma (Faux) Jackson. He attended St. Lawrence Catholic School, McKinley Jr. High, and Muncie Central High School. He met the love of his life while delivering milk for Covalt Dairy to Merry Mac’s Restaurant where she worked as a waitress. They were married on June 30, 1951. During the first four years of their marriage he served in the Naval Reserves, or as he referred to it as ‘a belly button backup’. As a devoted husband and father he worked many jobs through the years to faithfully support his family. He eventually found his true calling as a Ball State University Police Officer, serving in that capacity for 30 years. Upon retiring in 1994 he led a full life which included traveling, working construction, and he continued to exemplify Christ by serving his church in many capacities including, All Pro Dads at Sutton Elementary, cookie delivery, church camp cook and church board member. Joe was also the most recognized Santa in Delaware County as well as other states. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven sisters; Alice Taylor, Harriet Quakenbush, Mary Watt, Constance Thompson, Marjoie Tharp, Jane Frasier, and Rosemarie Hegge; two brothers, Arthur Jackson and John Jackson. He is survived by his wife and children, 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and many who consider him a mentor and father figure. Visitation is Friday, July 7, 2023 from 4-7pm at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. SR 3, Muncie, Indiana 47303. Celebration of Life will be Saturday, July 8, 2023, 12 noon with visitation at 11am. Glad Tidings Church, 3001 S. Burlington Drive, Muncie, Indiana 47302 officiated by Pastor Kevin Holt.
