Obituary
Carolyn Hyer, 88 of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on February 17, 2024. Born in Hortense, Georgia, on September 3, 1935, Carolyn was a cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.
Carolyn's life was marked by an unwavering commitment to her family and career. She began working for Independent Life at the age of 17 and dedicated 40 years of service to the company. She retired as Vice President of Ordinary Services in 1992.
A woman of deep compassion, Carolyn's kindness extended well beyond her home. She was a pillar of strength and love, a true matriarch who put the needs of others before her own. Carolyn cared for many who could not care for themselves. She loved to spend time with others and often whipped up Southern style meals for family and friends. She often organized and hosted family reunions for the large Jacob's clan.
An enthusiast of the great outdoors, Carolyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She relished time spent at the lake house or on the West Coast of Florida, where she enjoyed shared camping, crabbing and scalloping. These moments created lasting memories that her family and friends will treasure forever.
Carolyn's legacy is carried on by her beloved husband, Robert Hyer; her children Karen Williams, Mike Hyer, and Rick Hyer; her surviving sister and sisters-in-law Shirley Beverly, Betty Moore and Doris Jacobs; and her cherished grandchildren. She will be profoundly missed; but her enduring love and wisdom will continue to be a blessing to all who shared her life.
Carolyn's life will be honored at Arlington Memorial Park at 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Florida at 10:00 AM on March 2, 2024. Immediately following the service and interment a reception will be held at the Fort Caroline Baptist Church at 11428 McCormick Road, Jacksonville.
