Obituary
Leonard (“Lenny”) Marinaccio, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 28, 2022, with his family by his side.
Lenny was born on December 4, 1941, in Newark, NJ to Leonard and Josephine Marinaccio (deceased).
He grew up in a typical Italian-American family, with dozens of aunts, uncles and cousins. Family was
everything to him and he raised his own family in similar vein. Lenny earned his civil engineering degree
from Newark College of Engineering and immediately went to work in the construction industry,
following in the footsteps of his father who was a bricklayer. As a young man, he worked on numerous
interesting projects in the New York City tri-state area, including the 1964 World’s Fair in Queens, New
York. In 1969, he married the love of his life, Victoria (“Vicki”) Cunha and the couple had two children,
Leonard III and Christine in the early 1970’s. During the 70’s, while working for the New Jersey based
Frank Briscoe Company, Lenny fell in love with East Central Florida while working on projects at both
Cape Canaveral and in the Daytona Beach area. He advanced quickly through the ranks, eventually
becoming head of Florida operations for the company and moving his family to Ormond Beach in 1979.
Lenny would describe his success in typical self-deprecating fashion: “I was too stupid to know
something was impossible, ….so I just did it” And the things he “just did” were substantial. When the
Briscoe company pulled out of Florida, Lenny decided to remain in Ormond Beach and go into business.
Partnering with local developer Ron Bowling, Lenny founded Bomar Construction, Inc. in 1980. Ron was
the “Bo” and Lenny was the “Mar” in Bomar. After a short time, the partners amicably split and Lenny
obtained full ownership of the company. From its beginning, Lenny ran Bomar like a family and with
unbridled ENTHUSIAM. Over the next several years, Lenny and the key members of the Bomar family
built one of the Daytona Beach Area’s premier commercial construction firms. Many of those original
“family” members remain with Bomar today, working with Lenny’s son, Leonard III. Lenny was a huge
New York Yankees fan, rarely missing a game and agonizing over every pitch. But his true passion in life
was always family. “La Famiglia e Tutto” (the family is everything) was his favorite saying and he
dedicated his life to family up to and including his final days. Lenny was preceded in death by his wife
of 45 years, Vicki Marinaccio. He is survived by his sister Suzanne Lamar (Walter), his brother-in-law
Richard Cunha (Susan), his children Leonard Marinaccio III (Jenny) and Christine Marinaccio Kaney, and
his beloved grandchildren: Catey Marinaccio, Leonard Marinaccio IV, Dominic Marinaccio, Joseph
Kaney, Danielle Kaney, Jonnie Kaney and Michael Kaney. While Lenny may be gone from our presence,
he will forever live in our hearts.
