Margaret Carpenter

Obituary

Margaret Ann Carpenter, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on December 20, 1942, in Amarillo, Texas, Margaret was the daughter of Thomas “TH” and Susie Weatherred. Her early life took her across several states as her family moved often, but she eventually settled in California—a place that would change her life forever. It was there she met the love of her life, Sonny Carpenter. The two married on November 21, 1959, celebrating 66 years of marriage this year.

In 1972, Margaret and Sonny moved their growing family to Oregon. Margaret quickly became a beloved presence in her community, beginning as a volunteer at Legacy Mt. Hood Hospital. Her dedication and compassionate service led to a remarkable 25-year tenure. Together, Margaret and Sonny also built and operated their family business, Quality Service Electric, where she proudly worked until 1984—the year Sonny lost his courageous battle with cancer.

Later, Margaret found joy and a second family working at Bath & Body Works, where she remained employed until her passing. Known for her warmth and friendliness, Margaret truly never met a stranger. She was famous for striking up conversations anywhere she went—and even with people who dialed her phone by mistake.

In 2010, Margaret moved to North Carolina with her daughter Melody Ann, son-in-law Shane, and grandson Taylor. She was thrilled to be closer to her son Rick and his family, as well as her grandson Bryce, who had moved there years earlier to work with Rick. Margaret embraced her life in North Carolina wholeheartedly and remained active, involved, and connected up until her final days.
Among Margaret’s proudest accomplishments were her many years of service—over 25 years as a hospital volunteer and more than 20 years at Bath & Body Works. She treasured every moment spent cheering on her boys and grandsons in sports, watching her granddaughter perform as a cheerleader through high school and college, and supporting her great-granddaughters as they developed their passion for barrel racing. She was truly her family’s biggest fan.

Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband Sonny, their son Jimmy, her parents Susie and TH, and her niece Janelle.
She is survived by her children: Johnny and his wife Kim; Melody Ann and her husband Shane; and Rick and his wife Julie. She leaves behind six grandchildren—Bryce, Taylor, Jackson, Taylor, Christopher, and Cameron—and nine great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Braelyn, Remi, Addi, Payton, Ben, Delilah, Hudson, and Cruz. She is also survived by her cherished cats, Little Boy and Little Girl Kitty, who brought her endless comfort and companionship.

Margaret lived a life full of love, service, and joy. Her kindness, humor, and unwavering support of her family will remain an inspiration to all who had the honor of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
