Obituary

Marie Christine Tedsen, 99, passed away, the day after her birthday, surrounded by her family at Sutter Coast Hospital, Crescent City, CA. on January 3, 2022.

Marie was born in Vedsted, Denmark and emigrated to the US, shortly after WW-II. After graduating from school, her exemplary grades allowed her to apply for and to be accepted by an elite Nursing Preparatory Program in Germany. Once she completed this rigorous training, she served in various capacities and worked her way up through the hierarchy, achieving the appropriate credentials, to obtain Head Nurse status at the hospital she worked in. After the war, the economy and the countryside was so devastated, that she asked her Uncle, who was an American citizen and owned a large ranch, to sponsor her to be able to come to the US.

It took 3 years for the government to process her application and by the time she received approval, things were beginning to improve in Europe, if it wasn’t for her Uncle’s persistence, she would have stayed in Denmark. Since her nursing credentials were not recognized here in the States, after a short stint in an entry level capacity in nursing, she became a Governess. Marie had always loved children and she excelled in her new vocation. The family that she worked for were quite wealthy and she had an opportunity to travel and to take charge of running a substantial household.

On one fateful day, her Uncle called her to accompany him up to Del Norte County to visit relatives and Marie met her husband of 73 years, Jack Tedsen. Shortly after their marriage, Jack joined with his brother, Paul to begin a partnership “Tedsen Bros. Ranch” and “The Boys” ran a very successful dairy next to his folk’s dairy at the end of Lower Lake Road. Marie was a home-maker and she loved making people feel at home. Her hospitality was legendary and she not only cooked for the hungry field hands, but her doors were always open for everyone and it was not uncommon for the little house to be filled to capacity. The dairy was sold in the late 70’s and Jack and Marie continued on developing property here in Del Norte (Redwood Coast Subdivision, Washington Square, Kristian Lane, Tedsen Lane, etc.).

Marie is survived by her husband Jack. They had three children, Raymond John Tedsen (wife, Karen), Roy Roderick Tedsen (wife, Sharon) and Doris Christine Stremberg (husband, Kurt). Their Grandchildren are: Leif Stremberg, wife, Kelly (Great Grandchild, Ingrid Stremberg), Kristian Stremberg, Spouse, Jarred Lincoln, Aile Reneau, husband, Patrick (Great Grandchildren, Patrick and Gabriel Reneau), Erik Tedsen, wife, Natahna (Great Granddaughter, Annie Marie), Erika Wilson (Great Granddaughter, Emily), Soren Tedsen (Great Grandson, Dane), Julia Tedsen (Great Granddaughter, Krystina Webb).
