Obituary
Heaven needed another Angel- Marilyn Sue Plaisted McLaughlin went to be with her Savior in Glory on November 8, 2024. She was born in Garberville and moved to Del Norte County when she was an infant. After graduating from Del Norte High School in 1961, she married her sweetheart, Jim McLaughlin, in July of the same year. They were blessed with more than 63 years of marriage. She was very proud of her three daughters; Barbara, Deanna, and Shannon, and her five grandchildren; Amber, Jenna, Nathan, Morgan and Colton.
She was a homemaker, while raising her daughters, and supplemented the family income as an Amway, Avon, and Tupperware representative. There was no time for idleness in her daily life. She created not only beautiful, but delicious cakes for weddings and other special occasions. She taught cake decorating to youth in the local 4-H Club as well as adult classes for the Wilton Company at the local Coast to Coast Hardware store.
She was involved in numerous community activities, serving as the President of The Emblem Club, one of the founding board members of the St. George Reef Lighthouse Preservation Society, lifelong member of the Ft. Dick Grange and member of Four Square Church, faithfully attending the ladies Bible study group (The Lioness' Rising).
When she had finished raising her daughters, she went to work for the Del Norte County Senior Center. After a number of years working there, she transitioned to Seaside Hospital, which later became Sutter Coast Hospital. She retired in April of 2016, after 25 years of employment.
Marilyn enjoyed cultivating beautiful flowers in her yard, oil painting, toll painting, cooking, baking, and crafting. She provided a loving home for many rescued animals throughout the years.
Marilyn will be dearly missed by her family and those who loved her. In keeping with the theme of her bible study ladies, like "The Lioness" Marilyn has risen to Heaven to join the Saints in Glory.
