In Loving Memory of

Marilyn Turner

January 11th, 1933 - January 7th, 2023

Obituary

Marilyn Ann Werner Turner, age 89 of McCandless passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Concordia Rebecca Residence. She was born on January 11, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Arthur G. and Mary (Fowhl) Werner of Ben Avon.
Marilyn was a woman of strong faith and old-fashioned values. Blessed with a beautiful soprano voice, Marilyn wisely chose a career in musical education over her other childhood ambitions of becoming a file clerk or elevator operator. Growing up in Ben Avon, she graduated from Avonworth High School. She earned her Bachelors of Music Education from the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music in 1954 and her Master's of Music from Michigan State University in 1968. Upon receiving her undergraduate degree, she began teaching choral music at North Allegheny High School in its inaugural year and later taught at Beaver High School for many years. She was always a favorite of her students because of her easy manner and sense of humor and her musicianship produced outstanding results in the classroom and on the concert stage. She retired from teaching upon marriage and devoted herself to her life as a homemaker, wife, proud mother, and doting grandmother. She taught piano and voice from home and was a member and eventually the director of the Greenstone United Methodist Church choir. She was a past president of the North Hills Music Club and its Chorale Director for 35 years. Happy anywhere there was a beach, she enjoyed March in Siesta Key for many years and parts of forty-six consecutive summers at Linwood Park in Vermilion, Ohio, her favorite place.  She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Larry Turner; loving child, Mary Ann (Joel) Scraper; two grandchildren, Joshua and Emily Scraper; beloved nieces and nephew Christina Werner, Jonathan (Sharon) Werner, and Meraley (Bruce) Wilson; Great nieces and nephew Erin (Tim) Gibson, Daniel (Alyson) Werner, Sarah Werner, and many family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her beloved brother and sister-in-law, Arthur G. (Marjorie) Werner Jr.
