Obituary for Marjorie Morgan Neely
Marjorie Morgan Neely born July 7, 1931 in Flat Rock, AL, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2024, in Hixson, TN at the age of 92 surrounded by her family.
Marjorie married the love of her life, Frank Neely, on November 24, 1955. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage, truly devoted to each other until Frank’s death in November 2021. After Frank’s death, Marjorie longed to be with him again and we know that they are now joyfully reunited.
Marjorie and Frank had one daughter, Deborah Neely Holsted, whom they loved dearly and never failed to tell her and demonstrate that love daily. Her greatest enjoyment was her husband Frank and daughter Debbie. If Debbie said “let’s go to the moon Mom”, she would have believed Debbie could get them there and jumped right in.
Marjorie adored her grandsons, Andy & Alex, when they came along. When the great-grandchildren came in, she beamed. If they wanted her in the floor playing with them, she did it. Even in her late 80’s, you could find her in the floor playing with them.
Marjorie loved sitting at the piano and playing songs. She said it was so relaxing. She enjoyed family gatherings where she, Lauretta and Freddie would gather around the piano and sing.
Marjorie enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She would sit, talk and laugh forever. What a laugh she had! At the end of the visit, she would always say “Don’t go yet, can you stay longer?”
Marjorie also enjoyed cooking. She would carry food all over – to church functions, family get togethers, to sick and bereaved families.
Marjorie graduated from Central High School, Chattanooga, TN, in 1949. She then graduated from Edmondson Business College and began her career at Western Mutual Life as a stenographer. She retired from the Wildwood Post Office with 30 years of service, 28 of those years being Post Master.
She was a faithful member of Wauhatchie Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, in a trio and served in many other volunteer roles in the church. Marjorie was a true southern lady - she was always gracious, kind, gentle, caring, welcoming into her home, hospitable, always knew the right way to do things and the appropriate thing to say. Marjorie loved without any restrictions or exceptions. She will truly be missed.
Marjorie was preceded in death by parents Fred A. and Pauline Morgan, brother Freddie Morgan, sisters Lauretta Marona and Martha Ann Akins and great-niece Morgan Sigler.
She is survived by devoted daughter and son-in-law, Deborah (Gary) Holsted. Grandsons Andy (Tosha) and Alex (Elizabeth) Holsted. Grandchildren Eden, Ollie, Evy, Addie, Finley and Austyn Holsted.
