Obituary
Martha Kirby Gibson, age 91, passed away on April 10, 2024. Visitation will be Saturday, April 13th, 2024 from 11-12 p.m. with service starting 12 p.m. at Crestwood Funeral Home. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery following the service.
Martha graduated from Gadsden High School and later joined her husband, Earl as a proud graduate of Jacksonville State University. She taught for thirty years in the Gadsden City and Etowah County School systems. She was a volunteer with the Gadsden Service Guild and active member of Bellevue Methodist Church in Gadsden, and in her later years Jacksonville First Methodist. She was a dedicated mother and always involved in her son's activities and sporting events. She spent “Half her life” at the ballfields in Gadsden. She loved her boys but was especially proud of being a grandmother and a great-grandmother. She also loved her soap operas, playing bridge, square dancing, and babysitting her grand dog, “Bama”.
Preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Earl Gibson; parents Ralph and Lois Kirby; her education mentor “Aunt Lois Britton”
Survived by her children David (Donna) and Donald (Peggy) Gibson; grandchildren Kevin (Morgan) Gibson, Wes Gibson, Brad Gibson; great grandchildren Amelia and Sutton Gibson; special sister-in-laws Jane Gibson Waters and Louise Gibson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Legacy Village Jacksonville Alabama. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Legacy Village in Jacksonville, AL., Piedmont Nursing Home, Enhabit Hospice and many others that have known and shown love, concern, and support for their mother and grandmother.
