Obituary
Funeral services will be at 2pm, Monday, April 8, 2024 at Crestwood Chapel for Martha Archer Tumlin, age 84, of Gadsden, who passed away Monday, April 1, 2024. Pastor Robbie Joplin will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12: 30 until 2pm. Interment will be at Crestwood Cemetery.
Martha was born on February 1, 1940 in her grandparents home in Wilsonville, Alabama and her family moved to Gadsden when she was six months old. Martha was an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Coates Bend. She was a 1957 graduate of Gadsden High School, received her BS degree in Elementary Education from Jacksonville State University, and advanced degrees in Elementary Education and Administration from the University of Alabama. She was a well known educator, principal and friend to many students, faculty, and parents. She was honored for her influence in education when she was named National Distinguished Principal in 1992 and honored in Washingtion DC.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Eula Belle and Barrett Archer and in laws, Annie Lee and Ben Tumlin.
She is survived by her husband of sixty six years, Olin Dean Tumlin, Gadsden; son Terry Dean Tumlin, Gadsden; grandchildren Amber Tumlin Robinson (Stephen), Vinemont, and Amy Tumlin Cofield (Kyle), Southside; great grandsons Tucker Dean Robinson, Owen Price Robinson, and Konrad Reed Cofield; greatgrandaughter Kyleigh Paige Cofield; sister Barbara Archer Bennett, Birmingham; sister in law Barbara Tumlin Crim, Huntsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
