In Loving Memory of

Michael William Caron

January 30th, 1954 - October 30th, 2023

Obituary

Michael William Caron, 69, of Vero Beach, passed away on October 30, 2023, at his home. He was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to the late George H. Caron and Alfreda Savoie Caron. Michael was married to his high school sweetheart, Anne Goss Caron, for 40 loving years.

Michael's life was filled with remarkable achievements and a deep love for his family. He graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and distinguished himself by achieving a perfect score on his Coast Guard exam. At the remarkable age of 29, he became the youngest oil tanker captain at Sun Oil, where he dedicated his professional career until his retirement.

Aside from his impressive professional accomplishments, Michael had a passion for sports and the outdoors. He played ice hockey during his high school and college years and was known for his competitive spirit and dedication to the game. An avid fisherman, he found solace and joy in spending time by the water, pursuing his favorite pastime.

In 1978, Michael and his family made the life-changing decision to relocate to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, from their Massachusetts home and in 1986 made the move to Vero Beach. This move allowed them to embrace the beautiful Florida lifestyle, and they became active members of the Vero Beach community.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Anne Caron; his devoted sons, Victor Caron of Kilkenny, Ireland, and William Caron of Media, Pennsylvania; his dear sister, Laudia Belmonte Caron of Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts; and his cherished grandchildren, Anthony Caron of Mashpee, Massachusetts, and Penelope Faith Caron of Media, Pennsylvania.

A prayer service in memory of Michael Caron will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 4 p.m. at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home. Following the service, the family will greet friends at the funeral home to celebrate and remember the life of this extraordinary man.

Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his family will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of being part of his life.

Memories & Tributes

I have wonderful memories of sailing aboard the SS Texas Sun with Captain Caron on the run to Chiriqui Grande, Panama. He was the consummate professional and someone a young Third Mate could aspire to be like. Rest in peace, shipmate and fellow MMA alumnus. David Keene
