Obituary
Mr. Milford Gene Yager, 78, a beloved resident of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away on March 9, 2024. He was born on May 5, 1945 a son of the late James and Edna Bell (Gaines) Yager. Milford, known as Gene to his loved ones, graduated from Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis and then proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He dedicated 30 years of his life to Siemens-Westinghouse Corporation as a mechanical engineer before retiring in 2010.
Gene had a zest for life and enjoyed various hobbies including hunting, fishing, yard work, playing pool and cards. He cherished the outdoors and found solace mowing and caring for his yard. An avid dog lover, Gene had a special affection for Australian and German Shepherds. He was also passionate about construction, grilling and spending quality time with family and friends. Known for his big heart, infectious smile and that twinkle in his eye, he was an engaging and captivating storyteller. Gene touched the lives of many.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Yager; his sister, Darlene (Jessie) Bray; his brother, Richard (Patty) Naylor as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in passing by his first
wife, Barbara Yager; his brothers, William Yager, James Yager Jr., and Ronnie Lee Yager; his maternal grandparents who raised him, Milford C. and Margaret Gaines and his paternal grandparents, Everett and Jantje Yager.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood, with Pastor Todd Poynter officiating. Gene will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens following the service.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. .
