Nancy Moore Wilkinson

Obituary

Nancy Moore Wilkinson, 88, of Petersburg, Virginia, died on March 27, 2023, at VCU Medical Center. She was born on January 17, 1935, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Linwood Clyde Moore and Bessie Kelley Moore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betsy Moore Bohlinger. She was a graduate of Westhampton College, of the University of Richmond, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Latin and English, and she subsequently received her Master of Arts in English Education. During her 40-year teaching career, she taught 5th grade, Latin, and English, and was an adjunct English professor for ten years at John Tyler Community College. She retired in 1997, from Matoaca High School in Chesterfield County. She loved teaching and interacting with her students of all ages, and she strongly believed in the power and importance of obtaining an education. After her retirement, she enjoyed gardening and spending time at her house in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Leon A. Wilkinson, Sr.; her son, Leon A. Wilkinson, Jr. (Karla) of Chesterfield; her daughter, Kelley L. Wilkinson of Richmond; her daughter, Nancy Kyle Wilkinson of Petersburg; and her son, Linwood M. Wilkinson (Ursula) of Chester. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 2:00pm, at Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George County. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
