Obituary

“I’ve had some good days. I’ve had some hills to climb. I’ve had some weary days and some sleepless nights. But when I looked around and I think things over, all of my good days outweigh my bad days, I won’t complain!”

Paul Edgar Jones, age 93, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 15, 2023, at Signature Healthcare. Paul was born December 6, 1929, in Muncie, IN to the late Arthur and Clara Jones. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop John H. Boone.

Paul attended Muncie Community Schools and later served in the US Army. As a soldier Paul fought in the Korean War. Over the years Paul was employed at Ball Brothers Corporation, Rogers Jewelry Store, Standt’s Jewelry Store, Fashion West, and retired from General Supply after 52 years of dedicated and hardworking service. Paul was also an entrepreneur and small business owner, being the owner and operator of Jones Janitorial Service for over 60 years upon retirement.

Paul was a humorous person, a hard worker, was passionate about his family and their well-being, loved to discuss sports, tell his grandchildren stories about his time as a child, watch old western movies, and was an avid Muncie High School basketball fan. Paul was the true patriarch of his family and looked out for everyone’s best interest.

Paul leaves behind to cherish his memory, two sons Ronnie Sr. (Gwendolyn) and Alvin Jones, and one daughter, Shenita Book (Vernon Sr.); eight grandchildren, Krista Garrett (Douglas Sr.), Kimberly Jones, Jason Jones, Jayda, Ja’Kayla, Vernon Jr. (Danelle), and Ryan Book (Amanda); thirteen great-grandchildren, Kalyse Garrett, Kaleigha, William Jr., and Tyrell Vance, Jacelynn Jones, Dustin Christopher, Destiny Jackson, Demiah Book, Dreden Book, Adrial Johnson-Book, Ja’Mareon Book-Childress, Journee and Braxil Watson; one great-great grandchild, Emaza Vance all of Muncie. Paul also left behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Mary Lee Jones, one son, Craig Allen Malone, six brothers, William, Robert, Radford, Elmer, Russell, and Vertie Jones; three sisters, Clara Bell Jones, Thelma Evans, and Betty Abbott, one grandson, Ronnie Maurice Jones II; and one great-grandson Jaden Lee Garrett.

The family of Paul E. Jones would like to thank his Primary Care Physician, Dr. Thomas J. Gibson and the staff of Woodway Internal Medicine, the fourth-floor staff at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, as well as Signature Healthcare for the special care that they provided.

A special thank you to Alvin Jones, Ronnie Jones Sr., Vernon Sr. & Shenita Book, Vernon Jr. & Danielle Book, and Ja’Kayla Book for the on-going and continued care of their father and grandfather.
