Obituary
Funeral Service will be at 2pm on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Crestwood Funeral Home for Richard "Dicky" Downey, age 84, of Rainbow City who passed away Tuesday May 7, 2024. Pastor Anthony Copeland will officiate. Burial will be at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Crestwood Funeral Home will direct services.
Dicky exhibited a Christian spirit of love and joy. Hunting, traveling, riding horses and motorcycles, and eating at new places were his favorite hobbies. He cared deeply for his friends and country. Dicky was proud to be a US Navy Veteran and for the friends he made while at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
He is preceded in death by his parents Cullman Clarence Downey and Eva Culbreath Downey; first wife Joan Edwards Downey; and sister Sandy Levy.
Dicky is survived by his wife Frankie Sue Copeland; sister Faye Griffin; nephews Terry Griffin and Joseph Levy; nieces Ilana Ben-Moshe and Shoshanah Levy- Bonzi; and many dear friends.
Honorary pallbears are Mike Brewer, Kenny Clark, Henry McKelvy, Jimmy Thompson, Nick Richey, and Durwood Johns Sunday School Class.
The family would like to express their special thanks to Amedisys Hospice, Home Stead (In home senior care); Cousin Butch (Sherrill) Downey, and Lauil Thompson.
It was Dicky's request that there be no public visitation.
