Obituary

Robert "Bob" Andrew Halley
August 13, 1941 – July 27, 2026

Robert "Bob" Andrew Halley, age 84, passed away on July 27, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 13, 1941, in Pensacola, Florida, to the late Elsie and William Halley. At a young age, Bob moved with his family to Crescent City, California, and later graduated from Del Norte High School.

Following high school, Bob entered the construction industry and built a career as a skilled concrete finisher. His hard work left a permanent mark on the community, as he helped build numerous structures in Crescent City from the ground up, including the local schools and the prison.

Bob was a lifelong outdoorsman who found great joy in fishing, hunting, and dredging for gold. A legendary local angler, he made history on December 22, 1976, by catching a 27-pound, 4-ounce steelhead on the Smith River. To this day, he still holds the official California State Record for that historic catch.

Bob was a devoted family man who was recognized in 1974 when he was named Father of the Year.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gwin; his sons, Rick (Pam) and Phil (Alicia); his brother, Michael Halley; three grandchildren, Devin, Morgan, and Austin; four great-grandchildren, Ellie, Sawyer, Zoey, and Nevaeh; and a few loving nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Richard "Dick" Halley and Jerry Halley.
