In Loving Memory of Robert J. Maichin
Robert J. Maichin (“Bob”), age 82, of Palm City, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024.
Born on February 17, 1942 in the former Yugoslavia (now Slovenia), Bob immigrated to the United States in 1952 at the age of 10. He was the beloved son of the late George and Magdalena Maichin. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol, children, Robert (Christine) of Northport, NY, and Deborah Scattareggia (Joseph) of Garden City, NY, cherished grandchildren, Lauren, Joseph, Andrew, Jaclyn and Robert, brother George as well as his numerous nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his sister Anna Stock. Bob graduated from St. John Preparatory in Brooklyn, NY in 1961 and earned his Bachelor's degree from Dowling College in Oakdale, NY, attending school in the evenings while working full time and raising a family. He went on to have a successful 40-plus year banking career, most of which was spent at European American Bank, before retiring in 2002. Bob was a longtime resident of Oakdale, NY where he and Carol raised their family. Bob was an avid golfer and loved to travel, but his favorite activity was spending time with his family, especially his 5 grandchildren, and his top priority was being present for all of their sporting events, concerts and plays.
Bob's warmth, generosity and faith were evident in all aspects of his life. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, kindness and his love for his family and friends.
A funeral mass for Bob will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Anne’s R.C. Church, 35 Dartmouth Street, Garden City, NY 11530. Interment will follow at 12:30PM at St. Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Ave., Farmingdale, NY 11735. The family will also be arranging for celebrations of Bob’s life to take place in both New York and Florida. Details are forthcoming.
