Obituary
Rodney Lavon Rudd, aged 87 from Valrico, Florida (formally from Florala, Alabama) crossed that river to find Freckles at her little cabin in the woods in the corner of Glory Land.
Rodney was born Jan 24, 1937 to his parents Burrell Rudd and Lena Graham Justice of Florala Alabama. He attended elementary school in South Alabama and graduated from Covington County High School in Florala. He was a popular student and involved in multiple clubs. He played both quarterback for the 1954 Wildcat football team, and center for the Varsity Basketball team.
He married Jimmie Nell Dewrell on September 4th, 1955 a week after completing Air Force boot camp. During Rodney's 21 years of service in the legal department, the family followed him to various Air Force bases: to include, Newfoundland, Libia, and Germany. After moving to West Central Florida, he and Jimmie Nell were very active in the square dance community for 20 years. Since moving here, he served another 20 years in multiple positions for the United Post Office in Valrico, Florida. He was also an Alumni and proud season ticket holder of the University of South Florida Bulls since the inaugural game. His final game was his beloved USF Bulls against his lifelong team, the University of Alabama.
He is predeceased by his wife, Jimmie Nell and his sister Miriam.
Rodney is survived by son Terry Lavon Rudd, daughter Vickie Gail Rudd Gause, and daughter Sandra Lynn Rudd Holcombe. His Legacy includes: 7 grandchildren, Tiffany, Heather, Joshua, Shane, Jesse, Nathan, and Rachel; 14 great grandchildren, Jacob, Ethan, Amber, Shelby, Haley, Maddie, Michael, Rodney, Nathan, Kaleb, Branden, Emilly, Mason and Noah. He is also survived by and His Brothers, Wayne and Ronald Rudd.
