Obituary

Ronald “Ron” Joseph Guimon, of Ormond Beach passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the age of 78, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend.

Ron was born to Michael and Eileen Guimon on May 11th, 1945 in Chicago, IL. Ron was the 2nd oldest of 12 children: Michael, Mary Joan (Pat), Martyn (Debbie), Gregory (Terry), Brian (Eileen), Regina (Jim), Kevin (Karen), Thomas (Desi), Keith (Rob), Timothy (Sandy), and Christopher (Kim).

Ron grew up in Franklin Park, Illinois where he spent most of his younger years. He attended Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, New York, graduated from Purdue University as a member of Beta Phi Chapter, and served in the Army. Ron went on to have a successful career, where he wore many hats; Salesman, Owner of R’s Dogs, and finally ending at what he did best; working with his hands in construction for Ragnar Benson. At Ragnar Benson he worked his way up from being a laborer to project superintendent. Ron knew how to get things done and everyone wanted to work for him.

While work was important to Ron, his family was the most important. He married the love of his life, Betsy, on July 13, 1968 and they happily celebrated 55 years of marriage in 2023. They met each other in 1st grade and, as fate would have it, they would spend the rest of his life together.

Many would describe Ron as one of a kind! Ron was known for his good looks, his thick locks of hair, and that million dollar smile! He was hardworking, dependable, always on-time, organized, and enjoyed making the most of every day. He enjoyed sports and cheering on his favorite teams; The Cubs, The Bears, and the Purdue Boilermakers – especially this past basketball season. His fondest memories were watching his grandchildren. He was Matt and Taylor’s #1 fan! When not watching sports, he enjoyed a round of golf with family & friends. He made some amazing memories on his boat “Grumpy No More” and when he was fully retired, his days were spent at the pool, the beach and on his porch!

Ron will be remembered and greatly missed.

Ron is survived by his beautiful wife, Betsy, daughter Becky, son-in-law, Tony, his two grandchildren Matt and Taylor, his very special “5lb” fluffy girl - Holly! He is also survived by his 9 brothers and 2 sisters, Betsy’s siblings Kathy (Bill), Carolyn (Tim), Jim (Pam) Barb (Phil), his cherished nieces and nephews, and many friends.

A Catholic memorial service will be held at 12pm Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Assumption Catholic Church, 323 W. Illinois St. Chicago, IL 60654; with visitation from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Luncheon to follow at the parish hall.

To allow his special friends in the Gardens, who have become like family, to pay their respects and celebrate Ron’s life, a gathering will take place in the Gardens of New Britain clubhouse on Saturday, June 1st, at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations can be made to Jefferson County Cancer Coalition, www.jcocc.org or Halifax Health Hospice, www.halifaxhealth.org

Do your best….The hell with the rest…. (R.J.G) “It’s been a hell of a ride”. (Lonesome Dove) Boiler Up!
