Obituary

Samuel Clemmons Burton, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed on December 31, 2023, at the age of 84. He was born on November 29, 1939, in Moundsville, West Virginia, to the late Oakla Ernest Burton and Merle Virginia (Hall) Burton.
Sam was a former employee of Fostoria and Powhatan Mine #5. Later in life, he served as a custodian with Marshall County Schools.
Sam’s memory will be cherished by his loving wife Joyce (Howard) Burton of Glen Dale; his daughter, Tammy (Mark) Durrah of Moundsville; his granddaughter, Samantha (Jason) Tripplett; and his great-grandchildren, Ryder Brown and Peyton Brown. He is also survived by his brother, Alfred (Linda) Burton of Moundsville; his brother, Okey (Shirley) Burton; his sister, Frances (Gene) Persinger; his sister, Judy (Joe) Frey; his sister, Diane (Sam) Whitlatch; his brother, James (Tammy) Burton; his sister, Virginia (Bobby) Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his sisters Linda (Jim) Barr and Shirley (Frank) Stocklask.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with funeral services directly following at 1:00 pm at the CARE Chapel Moundsville. Sam will be privately laid to rest at Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens.
