Obituary

Sylvia Jane Rodgers

September 7, 1937 – January 16, 2023

Sylvia Jane Rodgers (nee Hukel), age 85, quietly slipped away to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 16, 2023, during a brief stay at Advent Health Hospital in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

She was Sylvia to many of her friends and Jane to most of her family. She was born on September 7, 1937 in East St. Louis, Illinois, the 5th child in a family of seven. She was a long time resident of O’Fallon, Illinois before making Port Orange her home in August 1994.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Rodgers, her parents George and Flossie Hukel, brothers Robert Charles Hukel and Carl Raymond Hukel, sisters Virginia Lorraine Auvenshine and Rosemary Irene Wolf.

Sylvia is survived by her brothers, Charles Leonard Hukel and Walter Eugene Hukel as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was a graduate of Cahokia High School and a longtime employee of The Hartford Insurance Company in St. Louis, Missouri, until her retirement in 1992. She was also a member of Victorious Life Church in Port Orange. It was a very special place that was near & dear to her heart.

Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Please join us in a celebration of her life Monday morning January 23rd between 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. for viewing and between 1:00 - 2:00 for a short service lead by her pastor, Nathan Buker and wife Dawn at Lohman Funeral Home, 1423 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL; followed by a funeral procession to Daytona Memorial Park, 1425 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL where she will join William.
