Obituary

Thomas “Tom” Sager, born May 4, 1956, in Oregon City, Oregon, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, at the age of 69, spending his final days surrounded by his loved ones.

Tom was born and raised in Estacada, a community that remained close to his heart throughout his life. He proudly graduated from Estacada High School in 1976. That same year, he met Suzanne, the love of his life, at the Safari Club. Their relationship grew in Estacada and led to their marriage at the old Christian church. From the very beginning, they moved through life as one, approaching every choice with shared purpose and mutual respect. Together, they built a loving home that has remained the steady foundation of their family.

Tom dedicated over 25 years of his life to Shari’s Café and Pies. His commitment extended beyond the Gresham Shari’s where he worked, as he helped open several locations across multiple states while serving as a trainer until his retirement in 2010.

As a devoted father to eight children, Tom took great pride in his family and also found immense joy in being a grandfather to three grandchildren. His compassionate heart led him to foster children and adopt four, reflecting his belief that every child deserved a loving and supportive home. He was also a loyal supporter of his children and grandchildren’s athletic endeavors, always present and cheering them on.

Tom enjoyed spending time with family. Through the years, this included camping, biking, hiking, going to the beach, to theme parks, and on cruises, creating lasting memories through shared experiences.

Deeply committed to his community, Tom served on the Estacada City Council and on the Estacada Planning Commission. He also dedicated significant time to supporting local sporting events and was recently recognized at an Estacada High School football game for fifty years of volunteer service. His generosity, service, and steadfast dedication left a lasting impact on both his family and the community he loved.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne Sager; his children, Jennifer Sanders with her husband Ben, Melissa Sager, Diana Sager, Pamela Sprague with her husband Ben, Grace Sager, Maddie Sager, Ayla Sager, and Jackson Sager; and his cherished grandchildren, James, Peyton, and Saydie Sanders. He is also survived by his brothers, Don Sager and Roger Sager, along with several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Edna Sager, as well as his siblings, Sharon Whited, Gail Elliot, and Larry Sager.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 30, 2026, at Grace Crossing Bible Church in Estacada, Oregon, starting at 1:00 p.m.

Tom Sager’s impact on those around him will be forever cherished—a testament to a life well-lived, defined by compassion, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.

I remember meeting Tom for the first time at my sister Llyne’s wedding in Seattle and being struck him being such a kind, warm, family man. I’ve enjoyed seeing your family grow and thrive over the years. I’m so very for your loss of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. May the beautiful memories you’ve all made through the years keep him close in your heart always. Sending love to you all. Sue Burton-Kirdahy
The first Christmas after I had met his nephew Terry Santo Tom was one of the first to greet me and welcome me into the family. Was always so welcoming whenever we drove down from Washington to visit and often extended the hospitality of their home.
Their house was a gathering place for many years and he will be greatly missed.

I will always remember Uncle Tom’s smile and laugh! He had a great sense of humor! He cared for others, especially family! Tracie Kilty
