Obituary
Vernice Irene “Sally” Sweeney, 98 years of age, passed away
on April 4th, 2026, in Gresham, Oregon.
Sally was born January 1st, 1928 in Kennard, Nebraska to Carl R. Poulson and Edna Irene Poulson.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents and her
siblings; Brothers Oliver Kriss
Poulson, Carl R. Poulson, Gordon Lee Poulson, and sister Katherine Rachel
Poulson. Sally’s husband of 65 years,
Ralph E. Sweeney also proceeded her in death.
Sally is survived by 47 descendants: 4 Children; Patrick Louis Sweeney, Lonn Carl Sweeney
(Mrs. Teri Sweeney), Judy Lynn Knehans, (Mr. Fred Knehans) and Maureen Louise
Butterworth.
Descendants include 11 Grandchildren, 26 Great
Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren. Sally also enjoyed spending time with numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Sally left Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of eighteen and
moved to Oregon in 1946. In 1947, Sally
married the love of her life, Ralph E. Sweeney, in June1947 in Milwaukie,
Oregon.
Sally enjoyed Golfing, Cooking, Ceramics, Sewing, and
spending time with her grandchildren. She was a lifelong Sunday School teacher. Sally and Ralph were founding members of St.
Paul of Damascus Lutheran Church.
Sally enjoyed foreign travel. She traveled to Israel, Ireland, Mexico, Hawaii,
and Europe along with multiple other U.S. locations.
Sally’s family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude
for the loving care provided by the Legacy Hospice staff.
Family and friends will miss Sally, we know she is in God’s
care.
